The Redlands Westpac Art Prize
The Redlands Westpac Art Prize was instituted in 1996 to establish a teaching collection to expose Redlands students to works of art by leading Australian and New Zealand artists.
Now in its 14th year the Art Prize is one of Australia’s most respected awards. It is an annual art prize for contemporary work which must be an original, recent work by a resident Australian or New Zealand artist. The Prize is acquisitive and by invitation through the Curator.
In the ethos of the Redlands Westpac Art Prize, in 2004 a new format was introduced whereby emerging artists were encouraged to exhibit their work at the invitation of an established artist. This platform allows for continuing growth and development of the next generation of contemporary artists.
The Emerging Artist Prize
Mr Tillers will select twenty of Australia and New Zealand's leading contemporary artists to participate in the main prize. Besides submitting new artworks, these artists will then nominate an "emerging" artist. This makes for a two-tiered exhibition, which provides for much of its cutting edge and uniqueness.
The main prize for established artists of $20,000 is sponsored by Westpac and the award for the successful emerging artist is $10,000 sponsored by Konica Minolta. The winning artworks are acquired by Redlands School for their contemporary art collection.
The Emerging Artist Prize is the richest of its kind in Australia.
Previous winners include: Lauren Brincat, 2008 (It will come pa rum pum pum pum, pictured); Lucia Usmiani, 2007; and Beth Norling, 2006.
