Finsbury Green achieves operational efficiencies and competitive advantage with Konica Minolta

Customer Success Story: Finsbury Green

Finsbury Green achieves operational efficiencies and competitive advantage with Konica Minolta

Finsbury Green is a family-owned national business. In operation since 1973, the business now has more than 200 employees nationally with locations in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. Finsbury Green offers both digital and offset printing as well as managed services, inventory management, and logistics.

The Challenge

  • Needed to upgrade it’s existing digital press and add inline finishing capabilities
  • Required a partnership with a vendor that would support the business for the long term

Ultimately, Finsbury Green aimed to use the latest digital hardware and labour-saving inline finishing to cost effectively deliver quick turnaround to help them attract and retain new customers.

Chris Monteleone, direct mail production manager, Finsbury Green, said, “COVID-19 didn’t do the business any favours given print is already challenged. Inline finishing was important to us because it offered the ability to complete the job in a single pass. By removing multiple offline processing we reduce our labour costs and become more competitive. Finsbury Green also needed a solution that would help meet its sustainability credentials. Therefore, it required a press that would use less power and create fewer emissions, as well as meet environmental criteria.

Mark Orel, executive director, Finsbury Green, said, “It’s important for Finsbury Green to choose the right technology and partners to maintain business continuity and deliver environmental sustainability commitments into the future.” With these criteria in mind, Finsbury Green went to market, inviting proposals from a range of equipment providers including Konica Minolta. Since Konica Minolta was the only supplier that offered a range of inline finishing options without attaching third-party devices to the press, it quickly became a frontrunner. After the Finsbury Green team reviewed print samples from the Konica Minolta AccurioPress C14000 the solution was clear.

The Solution

  • AccurioPress C14000

The Konica Minolta AccurioPress C14000 had faster running speeds than their current press and offered longer sheet sizes including six-page, A4 inline with the new TU-510 option, plus banners. It required much less maintenance and the Intelligent Quality Optimiser (IQ-501) for automated colour control and registration accuracy was also attractive because it required less operator intervention.

Chris Monteleone said, “Once the paper catalogue is set up and the reference stock is chosen, it only takes 10 minutes to get the press running for the entire day. Our previous press took much longer than that.”

The C14000 with the finishing options selected for Finsbury Green lets it complete saddle stitching with top, bottom and fore-edge trimming; scored pages and square form spine up to 200 pages / 500 sheets; perfect bound books up to 300 sheets or 600 images; SRA3 sheets trimmed down to A4, A5 and DL; and business cards with full bleed with reliably high quality.

Being able to transfer the finishing equipment from the C14000 to Finsbury Green’s mono printer was another strong reason for choosing the solution. This complements the business’s printon-demand, direct mail offering.

Customer Benefits

  • A faster press with high quality output
  • Inline finishing options including new TU-510 for inline trimming and creasing
  • IQ-501 to automate colour control and registration accuracy and reduce human touchpoints.
  • Excellent service from a local team
  • Ability to win new business through improved capacity meeting difficult deadlines

The new Konica Minolta AccurioPress C14000 has helped Finsbury Green grow its business by increasing productivity because staff members can easily switch from press to press as needed without requiring additional training.

Chris Monteleone said, “This has been another turning point that has helped us grow. We can complete work faster, with less operator input and at a lower cost. The quality along with the reliability of the press gives us the confidence to meet customer expectations. The C14000 has contributed to create efficiencies in the business that help achieve demanding deadlines.

Finsbury Green has also benefited from Konica Minolta’s strong service ethos.

Chris Monteleone said, “Sometimes we feel South Australia doesn’t receive the same attention from our suppliers as the eastern states. Receiving a high level of quality service from Konica Minolta’s local team of technicians is a huge benefit.”

The Konica Minolta digital press also ticked all the boxes when it came to sustainability.

Chris Monteleone said, “Konica Minolta’s commitment to environmental sustainability was another major factor influencing our decision to partner with the team. Konica Minolta is a business that aligns with our sustainability ethos. By partnering with a strong supplier, Finsbury Green becomes a more sustainable business. We’re looking to grow the business in the long term and need to partner with providers that will be here to support us in the future.”

“It’s important for Finsbury Green to choose the right technology and partners to maintain business continuity and deliver environmental sustainability commitments into the future."
