Konica Minolta officially launches AccurioJet KM-1 for Australia at PacPrint

May 24, 2017 – Konica Minolta is officially launching its AccurioJet KM-1 for Australia at PacPrint. Today, a shift from analogue to digital printing is rapidly underway in the commercial print market due to a growing demand for high-mix low-volume production, shorter production time, one-to-one marketing, and variable printing.

Konica Minolta identified the need for a printer that can deliver offset-style quality and flexibility with the digital advantage of very short print runs, without incurring high costs.

Introducing the AccurioJet KM-1, a sheet-fed UV inkjet press that delivers all the quality and versatility of offset printing with the convenience and flexibility of digital printing on any type of stock.

David Cascarino, national manager – Industrial Print, Konica Minolta, said, “The AccurioJet KM-1 is Konica Minolta’s first inkjet print system to go to market. It was developed and designed to further meet our customers’ future print expectations with outstanding features, functionality, and capabilities.”

New applications made possible by the KM-1 include packaging, personalised packaging, niche marketing with specialty stocks, and more.

While offset printing remains the benchmark in terms of quality, being able to bridge the gap between digital and offset potentially opens up entirely new revenue streams for commercial printers.

David Cascarino said, “Customers’ demands are as varied as ever and the combination of versioning, personalisation, short or long runs, and extremely high quality expected nowadays is not something you can get from just any printer. To achieve this type of differentiation, printers must consider what is possible rather than what is already happening, and take advantage of new innovations, such as the KM-1, to stand out in the market.

“For Australian printing companies, this type of innovation has the potential to help grow their business by offering a unique service.”

Major features of the AccurioJet KM-1 include:

  • Outstanding image quality comparable to that of a sheet-fed offset press. The AccurioJet KM-1 can cover the entire process of creation of a wide range of printed products with its outstanding reproducibility of sharp-edged, high-density images and characters.
  • Consistency in colour reproduction quality. Due to it's closed loop technology, even after continuous long-time use, the KM-1 can produce prints of consistent density and colour tone, ensuring high print quality at all times.
  • Ability to print on a wide variety of stocks. The AccurioJet KM-1 can handle paper-based and synthetic materials of different thicknesses, ranging from 0.06mm to 0.6mm. The AccurioJet KM-1 prints without requiring pre-coating of the stock.
  • Ability to accommodate materials up to 585mm x 750mm in size, larger than B2. With the ability to print on a stocks slightly larger in size than B2, the KM-1 offers greater efficiency and versatility in the imposition process. For example, users can lay six pages out on a sheet of paper and print them to make double gatefold brochures or letterhead sheets.

David Cascarino said, “Konica Minolta anticipates that commercial printers will see how their print business can take advantage of the new printing opportunities and markets the inkjet digital print system will open up for them. The AccurioJet KM-1 is cost effective, and it requires minimal set up time and ongoing labour when introduced into a digital or hybrid workflow, which means that commercial printers will be able to meet their customers’ demands faster.”
