Digitalpress takes out Konica Minolta National Specialised Print Awards

28 Nov 2017

We are pleased to announce that Digitalpress is the winner of our 2017 National Specialised Print Awards. The awards recognise customers that achieve excellence in print with the help of a Konica Minolta digital press system.

The NSW-based winner took out the top prize for its digital print, ‘A Meeting of Words’, and has won return flights, accommodation, and entry to GRAPH EXPO 18 in Chicago, USA.

The winner was announced at our awards event on November 16 in Sydney. The entries were judged by a panel of experts including Kellie Northwood of Two Sides Australia, John Wanless of Bambra Press, Robert Brussolo of Ball and Doggett, and Darrell John of Konica Minolta.

The awards were attended by our customers, our managing director, Dr David Cooke, one of our directors, Susie Brett, as well as many of our sales managers, account managers, and national managers.

The finalists, and overall winner, were judged on quality, design concept, typography, and colour reproduction, and the quality of work was very impressive across the board. The standard of work this year was exceptionally high.

The winner, Digitalpress, is a long-term customer of Konica Minolta. The project was a beautifully bound and printed book. The registration was exceptional, and the quality and tones produced were second to none.

The reason behind the NSPA

Konica Minolta started the National Specialised Print Awards to give customers a point of differentiation in the market, helping them to win more business in an increasingly competitive environment.

The awards are a great opportunity for Konica Minolta to say thank you to its customers and celebrate the outstanding work they produce using our technology. We recognise that our customers rely on us for support and to help them achieve the best for their customers.

Reflecting on the Industrial print launch

The awards evening also offered the opportunity to reflect on the launch of the industrial print division in May this year. This division has seen significant investment and success in Australia and includes the flagship sheet-fed UV inkjet press, the KM-1.

Speaking at the event, Simon Crabtree from Jossimo, the first KM-1 customer in Australia, shared his experience with the machine. He divulged that he is running the machine up to 14 hours a day and actually has too much work for the machines. Initial projections saw Jossimo looking to print 15,000 sheets on the KM-1 per day. Real statistics show Jossimo printing 440,000 per day.

Celebrating the finalists and the winner

We took the opportunity to congratulate Digitalpress, our 2017 winners, as well as all of the finalists and entrants across Australia. In total, there were more than 190 entries from across the country, 105 of which were from NSW alone.

The national finalists were:

  • Digitalpress from NSW - “A Meeting of Words” – Theo Pettaras
  • The Type Factory Pty Ltd from VIC - “Sketches” – Geoff Shadbolt
  • Designline from QLD - “Redlands City Council” – Brian Gorman
  • Images on Paper Pty Ltd from WA - “Finches in Australia” – Claire Harben
  • Who You Creative from SA - "The Waratah" - Emilia Pace
  • Shire Labels Pty Ltd from NSW -  "Urban Agent" - Peter Petran

Theo Pettaras, managing director, Digitalpress was surprised and thrilled to take out the 2017 National Specialised Print Award. He talked about the need for print professionals to evolve, innovate, and be proactive in promoting what they do. He also talked about the National Specialised Print Awards being unique in the market and commended the initiative from Konica Minolta.

A look to the future

This whole event doesn’t happen by mistake and Konica Minolta is thankful to all customers, entrants, judges and staff who take the time to take part. We appreciate our customers’ investment in Konica Minolta and their submissions to the awards.

We hold these awards to recognise our customers, give back to them and say thank you. We are proud of the work they are undertaking on our machines and appreciate the dedication and long hours a lot of them put in.

Next year, we will look to make the awards bigger and better. We look forward to seeing the standard of work continue to improve and will introduce new categories across our new technologies, such as inkjet and embellishment, which will open up the awards to even more customers across the country.

Stay tuned for updates on the 2018 National Specialised Print Awards. We look forward to seeing your entry.
