Konica Minolta have proudly supported Landcare Australia as one of our four major charity partners since 2011 and we’re excited to celebrate Landcare Week with them this year.
Landcare Week is a chance for us all to acknowledge the thousands of Landcare networks and groups, facilitators, and other environmental care community groups, and volunteers across Australia working on conservation and sustainable land management activities in their local area.
And, it’s a chance to get involved. With the impacts of a changing climate, drought and biodiversity loss, Australia needs Landcare now more than ever. With over 17,000 registered local community environmental Landcare 'care' groups listed in the National Landcare Directory you are bound to find a local group to talk to about their events and if there are any restrictions due to COVID-19.
This year the importance of connecting to nature to improve our mental health and wellbeing has been even more apparent. After a time of drought and bushfires, and now experiencing a global pandemic people need social connections and to get outdoors.
Each year Konica Minolta employees across Australia participate in Landcare Australia volunteering programs to help local community groups protect and restore their local environment. Through the Konica Minolta’s Workplace Giving program employee donations to Landcare Australia are matched by the company and since 2017 used to fund Konica Minolta Land Grants to local community groups and initiatives with Indigenous communities. In early 2019, the Konica Minolta Indigenous Land Grant was awarded to the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria (RBGV) Cranbourne, which funded two native plant workshops with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community members focusing on local Aboriginal plant names and uses. In 2020 the Konica Minolta Land Grant will support the Macleay Landcare Network in NSW for a project to grow plants that will eventually restore koala habitat and compensate its population decline due to the recent bush fires. Konica Minolta also provide in-kind printing solutions to support National Landcare Awards and Conferences.
So, contact your local Landcare group and find out how you can help protect our natural environment and enjoy our beautiful bushland and waterways.
